Openly Gray

Openly Gray

It’s so crazy to me how trends change over time. From chunky, multi colored highlights to pop colors, to natural sun kissed balayage and to gray.

I have gotten more calls in the past year about people wanting to stop coloring their hair and go natural. Mainly my gray clients. The biggest questions I get for that appointment is how much will it be, and how long will it take? That answer varies for everyone.

As stylists, we can only do what your hair allows us to do. If you’ve only colored your hair a few times, it will probably be easier than if you had black box dyed your hair for the last 15 years, but not always.  Keep in mind that a major color change is a process. It is very likely that you will not get your exact look that first appointment, and that's okay.  Having honest conversations with your stylist helps to set realistic expectations for your visit. Because we don’t know what the hair is going to allow us to do, I normally let clients know it’ll take at LEAST 2 appointments, maybe more, to achieve the desired look.

Pricing can be tricky to quote, because the process is extensive. We have to charge based on how much product we have to use, what treatments we have to do, and how long the appointment takes that day. We want to make sure we do everything we can to keep the integrity of the hair intact.  Lightening is traumatic for the hair fiber, and we have treatments that we do to make sure we are keeping every strand as strong and healthy as possible. Having the right products at home can help with that as well. Using good quality shampoo and conditioner as well as protein treatments in between your appointments can help your stylist in the lightening process. Changing your color up is such an exciting process, and trusting your stylist during that process makes it easier and less stressful for you.

Here's to YOUR great hair day!
